This news was just given to me by my Independent friends:
ATTENTION ALL NYS REGISTERED INDEPENDENT VOTERS!!! We just went to our polling place. We were told we couldn't vote because we were Independents. We insisted we could vote with an affidavit/ provisional ballot. We were the first to try this! It was after 4:00 pm and we were the first??? A poll worker called the Election Board who told them to let us vote. We voted!!! Our votes may be counted if the motion pending the decision by the Federal District Court to allow the counting of these ballots. GO VOTE! YOU HAVE UNTIL 9:00 PM!
ALL VOTERS: You can NOT, by LAW be refused the right to vote for any reason by affidavit/provisional ballot. Your eligibility as regards citizenship, criminal record, recorded party affiliation, etc., will be determined after voting has closed. THIS PROCESS MAY TAKE DAYS OR EVEN WEEKS because of the pending lawsuit.
If you are refused a provisional ballot for any reason, or have other voter concerns
you can CALL ELECTION PROTECTION at 1-866-OUR-VOTE.
They have lawyers on staff to take reports and provide whatever help they can.
If you are told you're not allowed to vote because of Party affiliation, or for any other reason, insist on casting your vote with an affidavit/ provisional ballot, but know that you can not, by LAW, be refused. INSIST on filling out a AFFIDAVIT/PROVISIONAL BALLOT. You should not be made to wait for a poll worker to “make a call to the Election Board” or made to wait for any other kind of approval. If for any reason you cannot cast a regular ballot, you are entitle to cast an affidavit/provisional ballot.
Do not leave your polling place without casting a ballot. Peace.
